I admire the artwork of Paris based and self-taught illustrator, Marguerite Sauvage.
Much like myself, Marguerite is inspired by and admires the strong, beautiful and feminine in life – her biggest source of inspiration being simply everyday life.
“Happiness and anti-stress: I just want to make things prettier.”
Her use of color, delicate hand and unique ability to capture the lifestyle of today’s trendsetters has placed her in high demand with clients such as InStyle and Flaunt magazine, to name only a few.

I have always loved fashion Illustration. I enjoy the act of illustrating fashion more than the actual garment itself. If I could do it all over again, I would study illustration over fashion design. The fashion industry (especially here in Canada) has little use for traditional skills like sewing and pattern making. In my travels as a fashion designer I have yet to cross paths with a head designer who could sew and sketch.
On a positive note, if most designers could in fact sketch, perhaps there would be no need for talented illustrators like Anna Higgie whose artwork is some of my favorites. She is not the only talented fashion illustrator out there – but I will leave naming them all for another day.

Since I was a child I have always loved looking at old photographs. There is something about the grainy quality of film and the colors in old photos that I adore. I remember looking through the old pictures in our family photo album and seeing pictures of my parents when they were young. I remember a particular set of photos of my mother in a vintage striped bikini sporting a ‘Farah Fawcett’ hairstyle at the beach and my aunt Karen in a denim romper. In those photos they looked like pin-up models and I was fascinated by them.
The above images are part of Foam magazine’s May issue editorial titled “Bathing Beauties”, featuring vintage swimsuits selected by Fashion Editor Djuna Bel.
